Situated between Banepa and Panauti in the Kathmandu Valley, this trek is also a famous Buddhist pilgrimage route. Stupas with fluttering, colorful prayer flags provide a welcomed sight to tired trekkers and pilgrims alike while traversing the path.
The second day of the itinerary you visit the ancient Newar town of Dhulikhel (1440 m), which is famous for beautiful sunset and sunrise views with the magnificent Himalayan ranges in the background. The next day we trek to Namo Buddha where an amazing legend is commemorated by an ancient stone slab and a stupa with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha. You'll have to take the trek to hear the legend (I'll give you a hint: it involves Buddha feeding a starving tigress and cubs with his own flesh)! The trek will also take you through several traditional villages inhabited by Tamang and Newari people. Before returning to Kathmandu you will also have the opportunity to see what some believe to be the oldest surviving structure in Nepal -- the three-tiered Indreshwor Mahadev built in 1294 AD.
Rhododendron bushes and magnolia and sal trees cover the hillsides leading to the terraced agricultural fields. This area, untouched by modern life, is a nature lovers dream with extraordinary flora and fauna. Not only will you experience traditional life in this region, but you will also have the opportunity to visit many sacred and ancient temples and monasteries including Namo Buddha, Indreshwar Mahadev Temple, and the Brahmayani Temple.
