The trek commences with an overland journey to Syabru Bensi where we overnight. The following four days are full of beautiful scenery with forests of oak, rhododendron and pine slotted between ancient settlements. An extra day is spent here for taking in the high mountain scenery and some further exploration of the extensive glacier system.
From Kyangjin Gompa, one day is taken reaching the foot of Gyanja-La where we rest a night for acclimatisation and to assess the weather conditions. All being well, the next morning we push on high to cross the pass before making a steep descent. The following two days are under canvas away from human settlements. On the third day we reach Sermathang, a beautiful Sherpa village in the Helambu region where for overnight.
